Season Ends The Way it Started For Senior Melons
The bad news is, the weather cut the Gothenburg Melons’ season a little short. The good news, they went out with a win. The Senior Melons traveled to Kearney on Tuesday, July 2 to take on the Kearney Jersey’s Seniors. Coincidentally, that is the team Gothenburg started the season against back on May 22. The season began with an 11-0 victory, and ended with a 16-8 win.

The Nebraska Football team has honored Hall of Fame Coach Tom Osborne outside their new athletic complex. A statue of Osborne and quarterback Brook Berringer has been installed outside the Osborne Legacy Complex. Fred Hoppe sculpted the statue, which was initially installed outside the Osborne Athletic Complex on the north side of Memorial Stadium in 2006. Team GO Continues Successful Swim Season
The Gothenburg swim team continued their very successful 2024 season at the qualifying meet on July 6 in Cozad. The top 12 swimmers in individual events, and the top six teams in relay events at the qualifying meet earned the opportunity to swim at the Championship in Imperial this past Saturday.

McVeigh signs contract with Houston Rockets
A former Nebraska basketball player has signed a contract to play in the NBA. Forward Jack McVeigh has agreed to a two-way deal with the Houston Rockets. The Australian played three seasons for the Cornhuskers (2015-2018). He would appear in 78 games at Nebraska, averaging 5.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. McVeigh would depart Nebraska after his junior season due to reduced playing time and sign with the Adelaide 36ers of Australia’s National Basketball League. He would spend the 2024 season with the Tasmania JackJumpers. McVeigh averaged 16.5 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. He was named to the All-NBL Second Team and was also the MVP of the championship series. McVeigh recently earned a spot on a basketball team for the 2024 Paris Olympics representing his home country of Australia.
