Greater Houston Disaster Alliance launches Hurricane Beryl Recovery Fund for severely impacted households
In response to the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Beryl, the Greater Houston Disaster Alliance, a joint initiative by the Greater Houston Community Foundation and United Way of Greater Houston, has established the Hurricane Beryl Recovery Fund. This fund aims to assist households severely impacted by the hurricane that struck Greater Houston on July 8, 2024. Early contributions to the fund include $1 million each from the Sarofim Foundation, H-E-B, and the CenterPoint Energy Foundation, with additional support from Shell and Wells Fargo.

A Navasota man is in custody after his arrest Sunday afternoon on a theft charge out of Brenham. At 1 p.m., Brenham police responded to the 2800 block of Wood Ridge Boulevard in reference to a theft. DPS Troopers observed the vehicle linked to the incident and stopped it in Waller County. The driver, 41-year-old Detrick Dewayne Nelms, was arrested for Theft of Property $2,500 – $30,000 and transported to the Washington County Jail.

KATY, TX (Covering Katy News)—Hurricane Beryl hit Fort Bend County directly on Monday morning, leaving streets flooded, tree limbs down, roofs damaged, and other problems associated with high wind and rain. The Katy area in Harris and Waller Counties also experienced the impact of Beryl. Regionally, about 2.2 million people lost power before the storm was downgraded to a tropical storm later in the day.
Greater Houston Disaster Alliance invests $1.5 million in home repair grants to nonprofits serving impacted households
Second round of grants brings total invested for storm recovery to $2.8 million. The Greater Houston Disaster Alliance is investing $1,516,000 from its Severe Weather and Derecho Recovery Fund in grants to help low-income neighbors who are struggling to recover from severe weather that impacted the region in recent months. The fund’s second round of grants will support home repair services for those affected by the severe weather and derecho winds that occurred between April 26 and May 17, 2024.
