The first-ever Cirque du Soleil Christmas show will be coming to Connecticut from Nov. 29 through Dec. 8.

Not only will this be the first time that “‘Twas the Night Before … by Cirque du Soleil” will be performed in Connecticut, it will be the first time that the internationally renowned circus company is bringing a show to the Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford.

Cirque du Soleil has visited Connecticut regularly since the 1990s. The company has mounted its own tent shows in Hartford and also brought tours to the XL Center and Bridgeport’s Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater. This past spring, Cirque du Soleil had its tent show “Bazzar” on Market Street in Hartford and its arena tour of “Corteo” in Bridgeport within days of each other. “Corteo” had previously played the XL Center in December 2022.

“’Twas the Night Before … by Cirque du Soleil” is described as “a Christmas-themed show inspired by the joy of giving and the wonder of the holiday season, with something for everyone in the family to enjoy.” The performance is based on the popular Christmas poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas” by Clement Clarke Moore and features Cirque du Soleil’s special style of acrobatics, aerial acts, trick cycling and more. Over two dozen performers are in the show.

The Oakdale Theatre has presents numerous holiday tours in November and December. In recent years, it has hosted “Cirque Holidaze” tours by Cirque Dreams, a Florida-based circus company that for decades was unrelated to Cirque du Soleil until Cirque du Soleil purchased Cirque Dreams’ parent company VStar Entertainment Group in 2018. Most of the Oakdale Theatre’s holiday-themed bookings are for a single night or a weekend. “‘Twas the Night Before… by Cirque du Soleil” will run for 17 performances over a 10-day period.

The run begins with two performances at 4 and 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 29, then three on Nov. 30 at 1, 4 and 7:30 p.m. and three more on Dec. 1 at noon, 3 and 6 p.m. There are weekday shows at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4-6 then another weekend schedule of Saturday at 1, 4 and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at noon, 3 and 6 p.m.

Tickets for the Connecticut booking are already on sale for the company’s Club Cirque members. There is no membership fee to join Club Cirque. Tickets go on sale to the general public on July 25 through cirquedusoleil.com/twas-the-night-before . Prices range from $44 to $256.
