Quiet conditions persist throughout the weekend, though expect it to be warm
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - A decent summertime weekend is likely across eastern Iowa. Summerlike, but warmth should not be too overwhelming. After a start in the 60s, temperatures have been warming steadily throughout the morning as all of the TV9 viewing area has been getting in on clearer skies. This process should continue for several more hours. Dew points have bounced back a bit from a low in the 60s, but stay near or just below 70 during the day.

Lake View Police Department’s First Cone With The Cops Event Will Be This Sunday
The Lake View Police Department is hosting a new annual community engagement event, allowing Lake View residents to meet the team and enjoy a sweet treat. Cone with the Cops will be this Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Houndini’s Soda Fountain in Lake View. The department’s new Chief of Police, George Athan, along with Assistant Chief Christian Leisinger, and Officers Colton Selk, Nels Olson, and K9 Officer Jimbo, will greet community members, answer questions, and offer the chance to get to know the officers. Again, the first annual Cone with the Cops will be this Sunday at Houndini’s Soda Fountain in Lake View from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.

New sculpture collection is unveiled in Webster City park
A community in north-central Iowa is celebrating the art of sculpture later today. The 14th annual event in Webster City will be held at the community’s West Twin Park. Janet Adams, with the sponsoring group “Webster City Arts R Alive,” says they’ll be featuring multiple works from sculptors who are from Iowa and two other states.
Wisconsin Planned Parenthood responds to Iowa abortion ban
MADISON, Wis. -- On Monday, Iowa's Supreme Court ruled to ban abortions in the state after six weeks, making Iowa the 6th state in the Midwest to have an abortion policy stricter than the standard followed under Roe V. Wade.
NSF Grant Will Fund Research Into Midwestern Severe Weather
The University of Iowa is receiving a six-million-dollar grant to lead a multistate initiative to help those in agriculture mitigate the effects of increasing severe weather. The funds come from the National Science Foundation. Small sensors will be developed by the University of Iowa and will be deployed in Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas. The University says it will use the data collected to help with model forecasts. They say the model forecasts will help those in agriculture manage field operations around the weather.
Just How Many Iowa Jobs Did John Deere Cut This Year?
In July, John Deere announced that there would be layoffs all across the company. Company officials gave the following explanation for the most recent round of layoffs;. "Despite our efforts to contain costs and optimize production and inventory levels, the strategies we have implemented – including a global hiring freeze – have proven insufficient in addressing the challenges posed by declining customer demand, rising costs, and prevailing economic uncertainties crucial for ensuring the long-term health of our business."
Iowa’s Annual Sales Tax Holiday Starts Today
(State) Iowa’s annual sales tax holiday is today (Friday) and Saturday. The Iowa Department of Revenue says all businesses that are open during the sales tax holiday must participate. No sales tax or local option sales tax will be collected on sales of an article of clothing or footwear having a selling price less than $100.
