Hull Resident Taken To Hospital After Motorcycle Vs Car Accident Near Larchwood
Larchwood, Iowa — A Hull resident was taken to a hospital after the motorcycle he was riding and another vehicle collided near Larchwood. The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office reports that about 10:40 p.m., 16-year-old Ella Sammons of Steen, Minnesota was southbound in the 1400 block of Chestnut Avenue in a 2012 Buick Regal when she struck a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle, owned and operated by Caleb Meyer of Hull. The intersection is also known as A18 and Highway 9, on the southeast corner of Larchwood near the water tower.
Mason City rental unit left uninhabitable after overnight fire
MASON CITY, Iowa – An overnight house fire has left a renter looking for a new place to stay. The Mason City Fire Department says it was called to 1421 N Madison Avenue around 2:01 am Wednesday and firefighters arrived to find a smoldering fire in the attic of the house. Crews pulled the ceilings down to expose the attic and extinguish the flames.
Over $146,000 awarded to projects in Cerro Gordo County
MASON CITY, Iowa – The Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation (CGCCF) says it is giving of $146,581 to 13 projects through its 2024 grant cycle. “The Cerro Gordo County Community Foundation is proud to uplift organizations creating an impact in our county. We are eager to see these projects come to life in our communities,” says John Drury, chair of the CGCCF committee.
Woman sentenced for financially exploiting disabled adults in eastern Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A woman was sentenced Wednesday for financially exploiting disabled adults in eastern Nebraska. Beth Yeates, 32, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, received five years of probation, 90 days in jail, and was ordered to pay $16,876.31 in restitution to the victims. She was also directed to write apology letters to all the victims, Judge Brian Meismer ruled.

AMA Iowa names winners of annual marketing awards
The Iowa Chapter of the American Marketing Association announced the winners of its 19th annual NOVA Awards during a ceremony held on July 17 at the Krause Gateway Center in Des Moines. Iowa companies’ marketing efforts were recognized with awards for categories including branding, data analytics and marketing research, integrated marketing campaign and marketing communications. “Every year, marketing teams across the state of Iowa design and execute the most creative and impactful marketing initiatives,” AMA Iowa President Ben Currie said in a prepared statement. “Teams use various data and multiple marketing channels to reach customers.
