(Update) – 18 hogs die as the result of a tractor-trailer rollover in Guthrie County
(Adair, Iowa) – An accident early this (Wednesday) morning, north of Adair, resulted in the death of 18 hogs, some of which were badly injured and had to be put down by law enforcement. Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright told KJAN News the accident happened at around 3:30-a.m. as the semi tractor trailer was heading west/southbound on White Pole Road. When the semi came to the intersection with Frontier Road, the driver slowed down, but didn’t get slowed-down enough to stop at the posted intersection. As he turned right onto Frontier Road, a load of about 160 fat hogs being taken to market, shifted, causing the trailer to tip over into the ditch, taking the semi cab with it.
Celebration will thank flood volunteers
The city of Jackson is partnering with a pair of local businesses to throw a thank-you party for all those who helped out during the recent flooding event in Jackson. The celebration takes place from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Fendt Lodge in Jackson’s industrial park. Jackson Mayor Marcus Polz said all who volunteered to help battle rising floodwaters in Jackson late last month — in any way, shape or form — are invited to attend.
Bomb threat at Harbor Springs Airport investigated, deemed not credible
EMMET COUNTY — On July 30 around 12:45 p.m., the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office was sent to the Harbor Springs Airport, Little Traverse Township, for a report of a bomb threat that was received by phone at the Harbor Springs Airport, according to Sheriff Pete Wallin. RELATED: Bomb scare rocks Mackinac Island; officials determine there’s no threat Deputies interviewed the airport attendant who received the call. The attendant stated he received a call from a number that began with the number “52″ and made the threat that bombs were going to be flown to the airport, deputies said. The caller was male and had a Middle Eastern accent and was hard to understand, according to deputies.
