    Concord man in custody for recent Walnut Creek shooting

    ( KRON ) — The Walnut Creek Police Department arrested a man in connection to a shooting on Thursday. The shooting occurred in the 1600 block of South Main Street on Thursday, police said.

    At 7 a.m., Walnut Creek police responded to the scene on reports of shots fired. Police said a person had shot toward the victim, but the victim was not shot nor injured.

    Later the same evening, police arrested suspect Jose Cavazos in connection to the shooting. Police said the arrest was made in Concord.

    On Friday, Cavazos, who had prior convictions, was charged with the following by the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office:

    • Assault with a semiautomatic firearm
    • Firearm enhancement
    • Discharge of a firearm with gross negligence
    • Possession of a firearm with violent prior convictions

    He remains in custody with his bail set at $870,000, the DA’s office said.
