Shelby County Supervisors Approve Resolution Establishing a County Compensation Board
(Shelby Co) The Shelby County Board of Supervisors recently passed a resolution to establish a County Compensation Board, following the dissolution of such boards by the State Legislature. Community Foundation for Western Iowa Announces Appointment of Two Board of Directors and Seven Committee Members
(Council Bluffs, IA) – The Community Foundation for Western Iowa is pleased to announce the appointment of two new members to its Board of Directors, Christina Bateman of Atlantic, Iowa, and Kevin Cabbage of Stanton, Iowa. Bateman and Cabbage joined the Community Foundation’s 15-member board comprised of dedicated community members and leaders committed to improving the lives of all residents in western Iowa. The two began their three-year terms in May, with the option to serve a maximum of three terms.
Panora Sidewalk Sales Begin Today
Today marks the start of the Panora Sidewalk Sales for this weekend. According to Event Organizer Chelsea Schwartz, businesses and individuals are both invited to participate. They will set up on the sidewalks around the square and the surrounding blocks, and sell items to those who come to enjoy the event. With no set hours, checking social media for the local businesses is a good idea, as they may have self imposed hours for today and tomorrow. Schwartz adds that this is a good opportunity for businesses to see their customers outside their store, and an opportunity for those who may only be passing through to stop and find out more about the town and community.
DCI Investigating Homicide in Taylor County
(Clearfield, Iowa) A Taylor County man is charged in connection with a shooting in Clearfield. The Taylor County Sheriff’s Office received numerous calls of a shooting at 3:19 a.m. on Thursday, (July 4) on Broadway Street in Clearfield. When deputies arrived, they found 19-year-old Colby Nelson of Lenox dead from a gunshot wound. The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny will perform a forensic autopsy.
Clarke softball has tough week
Clarke softball went 0-3 in games last week against opponents Cardinal, Dowling Catholic and Knoxville. Against Knoxville on Thursday, June 27, Clarke held the Lady Panthers to just six runs over six innings, but didn’t manage to get any runs themselves. The Lady Indians had six total hits - one each from Maisy McCoy, Ali Henry, Maddy McCoy, Tory Henry, Reese Shaw and Liliana Contreras. Tory Henry had one successful stolen base attempt.
Osceola Library offers digital piano for public use
The Osceola Public Library has added another amenity to their roster of items available to the public for use - a digital piano. The piano was purchased by the library as an availability for people to use if they don’t have a piano at home or access to one otherwise. The library also hosts different programs throughout the year, and the piano can be used at those if needed. A digital piano is an electric keyboard that is made to sound and feel like a traditional acoustic piano, however it is portable and has volume control.

Chargers Softball Taking on Treynor Cardinals Tonight
The AC/GC Chargers softball team is in action tonight for the regular season’s final game. The 11-12 Chargers head to Treynor to take on the 14-10 Class 2A 15th Ranked Cardinals. Emerson Van Meter has been the one to take the pitching circle for AC/GC all season. Reagan Carney leads in the hitting statistics for the Chargers, with 28 hits, a .389 batting average, three runs, 25 RBI’s, eight doubles and two home runs. For the Cardinals, Delaney Mathews is the leader in the hitting categories, with 45 hits, a .549 batting average, 15 runs, 37 RBI’s, 12 doubles, eight home runs and three singles. This is the first time the teams have played against each other. First pitch is at 7:30pm.
