Bill Russell's Boston Celtics were anything but slow and unskilled -- and we have the proof
There is a popular misconception that basketball before the modern era was slow, unwatchable, and played by non-athletes with little skill. Perhaps at least some of that was true before the start of the shot clock era in 1954. But by the time the Boston Celtics rose to dominance in the late 1950s, that was anything but the case — and not just with the Celtics.
Boston Celtics Hall of Fame forward Larry Bird's best highlights: Volume VIII
We have not seen as much of the legendary Boston Celtics counterpart to Los Angeles Lakers icon Earvin “Magic” Johnson in the hit HBO NBA basketball series “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.” However, Hall of Fame small forward Larry Joe Bird played an important foil to the Los Angeles title teams of the 1980s. Better known as the ‘Showtime” Lakers, the team joined the Celtics, through the on-court wizardry of Magic and Bird, to help revitalize a moribund NBA in the early 1980s.

N.H. town looking to fill short staffed police department
PLAINFIELD, N.H. (WCAX) - A New Hampshire community near the Connecticut river now only has one police officer after their police chief resigned. “Plainfield is like the kind of town where if you call the police department because you think you left your coffee pot on, we’re going to go in and check your coffee pot,” said Stephen Halleran, Plainfield N.H. Town Administrator. But that may not be possible now. Plainfield town administrator Stephen Halleran is working to fill three full time officers, all while having only one employed by the town. Halleran said former Police Chief Anthony Swett resigned last week, leaving Robert Depietro as the sole member of the department. The town used to have three full time officers and one working part time. Halleran said the change will likely just mean fewer patrols not an increase in crime in the town. “I grew up in this small town, and I can tell you it’s a wonderful community and so people I think, our police officers, get an opportunity to really get to know our residents and participate in their lives,” said Halleran.
