Deadly crash along Highway 50 near Rocky Ford involved CDOT dump truck
ROCKY FORD, Colo. (KKTV) - One person is dead after a car slammed into the back of a dump truck just outside Rocky Ford Tuesday morning. According to State Patrol, the two drivers were in parallel lanes, both heading eastbound on Highway 50. The Saturn SL1 abruptly changed lanes but didn’t have enough room to make that move and rear-ended the dump truck. The driver in the Saturn was killed.

Fire reported 10 miles northwest of Monument
A fire, reported at under an acre in size, has been spotted in the hills north and west of Monument. The U.S. Forest Service announced the fire, named the Metz fire, on social media Tuesday afternoon. The fire was initially reported at just a tenth of an acre and was caused by lightning, according to the Pike & San Isabel National Forests website. Forest Service said a small hand crew is on the scene. Additionally, two helicopters were called in to drop water on the fire to limit spread, which have been successful. The fire is in a remote wooded portion of the Pike National Forest in Douglas County west of Larkspur. The Forest Service says it was first reported around 4 p.m. Tuesday. There is no current containment estimate on the blaze. No structures are currently threatened, and no evacuation warnings have been issued as of 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Colorado Weather: Smoke Persists as Temperatures Rise
Denver, CO – Warmer temperatures are expected across Colorado today, with areas of smoke persisting throughout the region. According to the US National Weather Service Denver/Boulder, temperatures will range from the 60s to the 90s depending on the area. The Mountains and Foothills will see highs in the 60s and 70s, while the Palmer Divide will reach the 80s. The Urban Corridor and Plains are expected to hit the 90s.
