Was the HWY 50 storm a tornado on Wednesday morning?
KKTV was on the scene most of Wednesday after storm damage shut down HWY 50 near Manzanola. Officially, the NWS is not making a call whether or not this was straight-line wind damage or a tornado. But, there are some clues I’ve spotted going over radar data from Wednesday morning. The storm responsible for the damage fired very quickly around 4am leading to a quick severe thunderstorm warning being issued by the National Weather Service. Overnight storms like this are rare in Colorado, but they’re not impossible given the right setup.
