Hidden away between the picturesque hills of Val d’Orcia, Locanda in Tuscany is a nine-room charmer which attracts guests with its secluded location and a relaxed countryside atmosphere. Run by a Milanese couple, this gem embraces the surrounding landscape with a relaxed pace and suites overlooking the vast fields. However, Locanda’s hideaway location doesn’t mean it’s isolated from the most charming gems of Tuscany.

The hotel staff is always available to guide the guests and recommend the best places and activities for wine and food lovers, hikers, cyclists and explorers. Nearby towns are renowned for wine and cheese, and the hotel restaurant takes full advantage with classic Tuscan dishes prepared with local bounty and paired with wines from just down the road.

    How to get to Locanda?

Although Locanda is quite remote from both Florence (2 hour drive) and Rome Fiumicino Airport (2,5 hour drive), it is an incredible place to pause at during a road trip around Tuscany. Val d’Orcia is one of the most charming areas of Tuscany and surely cannot be missed during your voyage.

Considering the distances from the airports and nearest train station (40-min drive), Locanda is best reached by a car. With the roads being easy to navigate, you will not have any problems with finding the place.

Travel tip: Make sure you plan a quick stop in Montalcino and visit Siena, which is less than an hour drive from Locanda!

Locanda can be booked via a majority of partner sites like hotels.com or booking.com. For seasonal offers, deals and event brochures it’s best to contact the hotel directly.

The prices for double rooms start at $320. Please note that the hotel charges an additional local city tax of €1.00 per person per night at the checkout.

The hotel building remains an old Italian barn and the room decor perfectly reflects this vibe. The suites are very spacious and consist of a living area with a fireplace and cosy sofa, dining area, bedroom, bathroom and outdoor lounge with sunbeds.

If you are to book a suite with a freestanding bathtub, you will be able to order in-room spa treatments and indulge in ultimately relaxing moments.

    Dining

Taverna di Mozart, which is the only hotel’s restaurant, showcases the best of traditional Tuscan cuisine. The chefs source the ingredients locally to ensure the best local culinary experiences. The menu changes every season, but typically includes 10 dishes, prepared using old-world techniques. The breakfast is served on the private porch to everyone staying in the suite, however you are more than welcome to book a table in the main restaurant. The breakfast menu includes the variety of eggs, pastries and cheese served to freshly squeezed juices and delicious coffee.

The best spot for breakfast is right outside the restaurant’s porch. As the breakfast is served between 8:30-10:30, it’s worth waking up early for the orange and pink sunrise hues.

    Outdoor Pool

The big outdoor pool is a perfect place to relax and unwind. Surrounded by the vast Tuscany fields, the pool area looks like a scene out of Vogue.

    Things to see around

Val D’Orcia for many is recognised as the heart of Tuscany, and attracts the visitors with its unique landscape and jaw-dropping views. Its grassy hills are not only perfect for bikers and hiking lovers, but also anyone who fancies a scenic road trip. The region is famous for Brunello di Montalcino, a delicious red wine produced in the vineyards surrounding the town of Montalcino. If you’re a fan of truffles, you are up for a treat here in Locanda’s surroundings. Simply ask the staff for the best local recommendations and they will point out the restaurants you cannot miss!

Only 20 kilometres away from Locanda there’s Pienza- stop here to appreciate the finest of the Renaissance architecture and to sample the town’s Pecorino cheeses, which are recognised as some of the best.

Bagno Vignoni is another place you cannot miss during your road trip. Pack your swimwear and visit this picturesque town not only for the breathtaking architecture, but also a relaxing bath in the town’s very own hot springs!
