Hideout Beehive- a jungle escape in the East of Bali

    2021-01-24

Hideaway Bali is one of the most unique and Instagram-worthy rental properties in Bali. With its incredible traditional architecture, riverside location, jungle surroundings and the most friendly hosts- this secluded bamboo house should be added to every adventurer’s list.

Hideaway Beehive is a perfect place for adventurous couples, nature lovers, spiritual-minded people, travellers seeking unique places, but also artists and content creators who are after a dreamy escape to spark their creativity.

Right after its opening, Hideout Beehive took the world of social media by storm with its unique hexagon-shaped building and the infinity pool nestled by the riverside. Considering the popularity of this airBnb, it’s worth booking at least 6 months in advance to ensure your chosen dates.

    THE LOCATION

Hideout Beehive is located in a small and picturesque village named Selat which is 1,5 hour drive from Ubud and over 2 hour drive from Bali Airport. As Eastern Bali can be described mostly as a rural area, it differs a lot from lively Ubud or Canggu in terms of social life. With no night-life, bars, cafes or shops around, Selat is all about the connection with nature and relaxation. You can still, however, find local warungs with delicious food and take a scenic scooter ride to some of the island’s best tourist sites.

Some of the top things to do in the area include trekking through the rice fields, exploring the local waterfall Jagasatru, visiting Tirta Gangga, Ujung Temple, snorkelling, visiting night market, shaman and local temples, experiencing Pura Besakih and water rafting.

TRAVEL TIP: If you’re an early bird, it’s worth waking up early in the morning and driving to Bukit Cinta to experience the most beautiful sunrise and the astonishing views of the volcano and rice terraces.

Hideout Beehive can be easily reached by scooter if you prefer navigating on your own. You can also hire a driver for a day, which is a great option for exploring the nearby gems.

    ARRIVING AT HIDEOUT

There is a small ‘HIDEOUT‘sign right by the proprty which you can easily spot while driving. There is also a spacious car park right in front of the bamboo gate.

You will most likely be greeted by the staff member and the resident dog Tracey and they will lead you to your chosen villa.

The check in is 3pm-7pm, the check out is by 11 am.

    BOOKING AND PRICING:

All properties are truly unique and have different sizes, locations and pricing. They can all be booked via the official website, as well as airBnB.

The price for Hideout Beehive starts at $215/night and currently the minimum stay is 2 nights.

    THE SPACE:

Beehive is set in a small lush garden with a direct view to the running river. It feels totally secluded as it’s separated by a high fence which guarantees the highest level of privacy. In the garden there is a tiny bamboo swing, lounge area, a small rustic gazebo and the plunge pool overlooking the river. The riverside has direct access from the villa, and it’s very much recommended to take a dip in the clear waters of Gunung Agung.

Hideout Beehive is a double-storied house. On the ground floor, there is a small, yet very functional kitchenette, living area, and bathroom with an outdoor shower.

The master bedroom is located on the first floor and it has its own little terrace which can be accessed through the round-shaped glass door. The bed itself is round, spacious and filled with SUKU Home sheets made of bamboo rayon.

The plunge pool is a perfect place to cool down on a humid day, however, the water gets really cold! Luckily it can be heated which you need to request with the staff.

    FOOD:

There is a simple food menu available for the guests and you can order directly from Hideout’s small kitchen. Although there is only a selection of local meals, their Nasi Goreng is goals! The best of Indonesian cuisine is served here in the Hideout.

Your breakfast is included in the price and you can order directly with the friendly Team.

    ANIMALS:

Beside the resident doggie- Tracy, there is also Kikky the cat that wanders around the Beehive villa day and night! She is a really cute and cuddly attention-seeker which will accompany you throughout your stay.

Considering that Kikky is resident in the Beehive, if you are allergic or simply don’t like animals, it is better for you to pick another villa.

    OVERALL EXPERIENCES AND PERSONAL TOUCH:

With its incredible architecture, secluded location and dreamy ambiance, Hideout Beehive quickly became one of my favourite properties in Bali. It is indeed a great alternative to bustling Ubud and Seminyak, and the East part of the island is definitely bucket list worthy. I loved the personal approach from the Team, their friendliness and big smiles- all Bali style! The Hideout crew invited us for drinks (palm tree wine to be precise!) and endless travel talks. We sang, shared experiences, laughed until very late night, to be later greeted by the most beautiful morning sunshine coming through the lush green plants. I loved spending my days by the river and cruising amongst the most beautiful vast rice fields.

Hideout Beehive is definitely a great value for money, considering the size of the property, it’s location and amenities. Hardly ever you can find a private pool villa for the price of a night in Beehive.
