Praia Do Camilo, Algarve- The complete travel guide

    2021-05-05

Algarve, the jaw-dropping southern coast of Portugal, is not only a favourite place of European holidaymakers, but it also attracts travellers from overseas. This sun-soaked region is packed with incredibly scenic and cliff-bordered beaches that are one of the main Portugal’s selling points. Along with the picturesque fishing towns, scenic routes, well-developed hospitality sector and glorious climate you cannot go wrong when booking a plane ticket to Faro.

As the dramatic coastline of Algarve stretches over 200 kilometres, there are numerous incredible beaches to mark on your map. But which ones to choose if there are so many natural wonders on your way?

Praia de Camilo, the iconic sea lookout that comes straight from Algarve postcards, is a gem that you must see while exploring the sunny Portugal coastline.

    ABOUT PRAIA DO CAMILO

Along with the breathtakingly stunning neighbouring beach of Praia Dona Ana, the Beach of Camilo is one of the most iconic ones in Algarve. This nature gem is nestled between orange cliffs and bordered with turquoise and calm waters.

The beach can be accessed by a walk through 200 wooden steps, and it’s this very stairway that makes Praia Do Camilo so special and dreamy. When combined with the incredible surroundings, walking down the stairs of Praia Do Camillo feels like stepping into a whole new world of natural wonders and relaxation.

The surrounding cliffs shelter the beach from the ocean winds making Praia do Camilo a perfectly safe spot for swimming.

The beach is only a short walking distance away from Ponta da Piedade, a stretch of sandstone rock arches and sea stacks off Lagos' most southerly headland.

THE BEST TIME TO VISIT PRAIA DO CAMILO

Although there is not a bad time to visit Portugal, some seasons are better than other ones, depending on what the purpose of your trip is. The sunny coast of Algarve is not known for warm waters, and jumping in the sea during early summer may be a chilly experience. Late June to September are the warmest months, which means higher water temperatures too. This is the best time to book a flight for if you like comfortable swimming conditions and you don’t mind crowds.

If you, however, want to enjoy all the spectacular beaches with fewer people around, plan your adventure for April, May or October.

    WHAT TO BRING

Although the beach is bordered and shaded by cliffs, it is recommended to bring a parasol and a reef-safe sunscreen in case the strong Algarve sunshine kicks in. Although there are a couple restaurants around, it’s great to bring your own lunch and drinks to enjoy while soaking up the sunshine.
