Airport lounges are blessed havens for early airport-arrivers and long layover-havers the world over. Not everyone is lucky enough to have access to them, but if you do, why spend your down time frittering around at the gate or blowing money at an overpriced airport bar when you could be kicking back in a quiet space, enjoying complimentary drinks and snacks? There's just no substitute.

Most airport lounges don't try to be anything more than a nice, deluxe space where people can luxuriate before catching their next flight- but not the Starlux Lounge at Taipei International Airport. As Clint Henderson from The Points Guy put it, this out-of-this-world lounge apparently doubles as a set for Star Trek .

I mean, they're not even being subtle about it. The "Galactic" branding? The chrome-plated everything? The automatic sliding doors that "swoosh" when they open? At this point, just install a holodeck, hire a Ferengi bartender, and go all the way with it. Clint Henderson of @thepointsguy , likely a fellow Trekkie himself, was all in on the out-of-this-world airport lounge concept!

Henderson first wrote about the new Galactic Lounge in February, shortly after it first opened at Taipei International Airport . As highlighted in his video, he loved not only the lounge's space-age design but also its plentiful amenities like its diverse array of food, drink, and reading material, nice bathrooms with big showers and Toto bidet toilets, and attentive service. This new lounge in Taipei Airport's Terminal 2 is a big step up from their first lounge in Terminal 1, which was much less flashy. One Mile at a Time gave the Terminal 1 Starlux lounge a middling review last year, saying that while it had decent food and drink, it was "way too small" for a hub lounge and didn't even have bathrooms. Looks like Starlux upped their game the second time around!

    About Starlux Airlines

This video was also my first introduction to the Taiwan-based Starlux Airlines, although to be fair, as Henderson mentioned, it only started service in 2020. It's still pretty new on the scene, and predominantly operates on Asian flight routes, though it's expanding outward pretty quickly!

According to the Starlux website , their network covers "Asia's major cities including Taipei, Bangkok, Saigon, Hanoi, Da Nang, Clark, Cebu, Singapore, and ten Japanese destinations. LAX eventually joined that lineup, and Starlux had just added San Francisco International to their route map when Henderson visited their new lounge. By August 17, Starlux will have a third American destination in their roster: Seattle. And, thanks to a partnership with Alaska Airlines , Starlux is offing special promotional fares to passengers flying from certain cities to Taipei through Seattle! The details of that promotion are linked above, but don't wait too long to check it out- their promotional period ends June 23.
