ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) – Trine softball continued their quest to repeat as DIII national champions with a 2-0 win over Mount Union on Friday.

Tyra Marcum put the Thunder on the board in the top of the third inning with a 2-out RBI double to right field. Karley Trine reached home to put Trine ahead, 1-0.

Next inning, Emma Beyer added an insurance run with a sac fly to left field. Emily Wheaton tagged up from third base to double Trine’s lead, 2-0.

Meanwhile, Alexis Michon pitched a complete game shutout. The righty allowed only three hits and a walk to earn her 18th win of the season.

Trine hosts Mount Union again on Saturday, who survived an elimination game later on Friday. The Thunder only need one win out of a potential two games to advance to the NCAA Super Regional. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at SportONE/Parkview Field.
