ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) – Trine softball left no doubt in Saturday’s NCAA regional championship game, topping Mt. Union, 8-0, that was called in five innings.

The reigning DIII national champions are taking home their third straight NCAA regional title, while also punching their ticket to the super regional round.

Trine mashed at the plate early. Tyra Marcum crushed a 2-run blast to center field to put the Thunder on the board. Debbie Hill followed that up in the next at-bat with a solo shot to the same spot.

Macy Rocha and Emma Beyer plated insurance runs in the third inning, with Scarlett Elliott bringing home another score on a sac fly. Beyer drove in another run in the fifth inning, with Elliott plating the game-sealing run on a RBI single to left field.

Meanwhile, Hill pitched a complete game shutout in the circle. The sophomore allowed two hits while fanning six batters to earn her 14th win of the season. Hill was also named the regional’s most outstanding player after a stellar week with the Thunder.

Trine advances to next week’s super regional round, which could take place in Angola. The best-of-three series is scheduled to begin on Thursday and conclude on Friday.
