ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — A local developer plans to build 42 market-rate, rental townhomes at Lower Huntington and Kress roads after receiving planning and county approval Friday.

Preliminarily named Lower Huntington Road Townhomes, the five-acre development will feature high-end, two-story, two-bedroom, 2.5-bath units with about 1,200 square feet, an attached one-car garage and individual driveway, according to Scott Federoff, a local attorney associated with the project.

The development laid out in a triangular concept will surround a park area that Federoff said most likely will have a gazebo and outdoor grills.

The units will rent for about $2,000 a month, Federoff estimated. The project is adjacent to single-family housing and the Southwest Fire Department.

Friday, the Allen County Commissioners approved the project unanimously, but noted that residents were worried about a townhome development going in next to single-family homes.

The developer will be required to provide “buffering,” as in trees and bushes to separate the residential areas.

Commissioners also noted the All in Allen masterplan calls for different types of construction in traditionally single-family residential areas.

“We’d love to see it start this year,” Federoff said. “We’re still working on plans.”

Then how about widening the roads and increasing the speed limits so people don't get stuck in traffic all dang day? Just keep adding more cars to these aging poorly maintained roads and deal with the lawsuits when people crash, and take chances until there are multiple fatalities. Most of these town homes are poorly constructed and ugly like a cross between a garage and a shack.
