2024 Highlight Zone Preview: Southern Wells Raiders

PONETO, Ind. (WANE) – With high school football starting in less than a week, Southern Wells is hitting the reset button again.

Last month, Blake Blaker was officially named head football coach of the Raiders. The Eastside High School grad takes over for Jeff Sprunger, who stepped down after one season.

Blaker is tasked with leading a Southern Wells program that has fallen on hard times in recent years. Last season, Southern Wells ended a 22-game losing streak by winning their season opener at Elwood. The win also ended a four-year drought without a victory. However, Southern Wells ended the season with nine straight losses.

Southern Wells looks to establish more physicality in the trenches with upperclassmen like Quintin Darling and Korbin Eltzroth. Meanwhile, Trey Slusher returns to lead Southern Wells’ offense as quarterback.

Blaker and the Raiders kick off their season on Friday against Elwood.
