2024 Highlight Zone Preview: Jay County Patriots

PORTLAND, Ind. (WANE) – Last year was a tale of two halves for Jay County football. The Patriots kicked off the season with three straight wins, but Grant Zgunda’s crew plummeted with six losses in their final seven games.

Despite the 4-6 record, Jay County earned their best finish yet under Zgunda’s tutelage. Now the head coach is working with a senior class that is the first group to develop all four years with Zgunda.

Jay County returns several starters from last year’s team. Quarterback Sean Bailey is back for his senior year after tossing for 887 yards and scoring 12 total touchdowns. Running back AJ Myers also returns after rushing for 939 yards and 11 touchdowns last year.

On defense, Carter Barton looks to lead the way after racking up a team-high 81 tackles, including three for loss. Lucas Strait piled up 75 tackles and 10 for loss, including a sack.

Jay County kicks off the season on Friday at Blackford.
