FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) — University of Saint Francis, USF, welcomes back students on Thursday with mass, celebrations and many chances to meet and reconvene with classmates.

Parents attend festivities for the first day, joining their student to attend mass, move into the dorm and the matriculation ceremony. Then, parents are sent back home to leave the students for their resident life social. Commuter students join the celebration on Friday.

Orientation welcome leaders, better known as OWLs, are the organizers of Welcome Week that get to know first year students and show them around campus. OWL Jack Doughty said it is crucial to give students’ a warm welcome as they start their college careers.

“We’re just those faces that people meet for the first time and become their first friends,” Doughty said.

Welcome Week runs from Aug. 22 to Aug. 25 at USF. For more information on USF or Welcome Week, visit the USF website .
