GOTW Extended Highlights/Interviews: Leo rallies late at Luers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Season 30 of the Highlight Zone kicked off with a bang, with Leo pulling a come-from-behind win at Bishop Luers in your Game of the Week!

Trailing 17-13 with less than two minutes left, Grayson Esguerra connected with Jax Keller for a 42-yard touchdown to put Leo in front for good.

Leo got off to a hot start in Friday’s thriller. The Lions marched downfield on their opening drive, with Esguerra finding Army commit Landin Hoeppner for a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. Despite forcing a few Bishop Luers’ turnovers, Leo couldn’t capitalize on offense and had to settle for a 7-0 lead at halftime.

Coming out of halftime, Bishop Luers tied the game on a kickoff return touchdown by TJ Epperson. Leo answered on the ensuing series with a touchdown run by Nate Foster.

Late in the third quarter, Luers capitalized on a Leo fumble to take the lead on a touchdown run by Daryea Williams. The Knights tacked on a field goal from Angel Rojas in the fourth quarter to take a 17-13 lead.

After a pair of defensive stands by Leo, the Lions finally took the lead on their final offensive series of the night. The Lions’ defense swarmed Bishop Luers’ offense to eliminate any chance of a potential game-tying field goal.

Leo visits Angola next Friday, while Bishop Luers heads to New Haven.
