AUBURN, Ind. (WANE) — The 68th annual Auburn Cord Duesenberg Festival officially kicks off on Thursday to celebrate and promote automobile heritage.

This year, the festival’s theme, “Year of the Duesenberg”, celebrates the 100th anniversary of Duesenberg winning the Indianapolis 500.

Leslie Peel, the executive director of the festival, said there are many dedicated car lovers that attend the festivities, especially the Cruise-In on Friday morning.

“People start lining up very early,” Peel said. “1 a.m., 2 a.m., they’ll sleep in their car.”

The festival hosts their Kick-Off Luncheon and Celebration on Thursday as the Hoosier Tour returns to the ACD Museum. Other celebrations like the Ladies’ Tipsy ParTea, Ticket to Ride and the Fast and Fabulous concert are also presented throughout the weekend.

Other organizations are also involved in planning events for the festival. The ACD Museum hosts their Golden Jubilee party to commemorate 50 years of operation as well as their Connecting Rods Lunch. The ACD Club presents their swap meet, and the National Auto & Truck Museum hosts their Pancake and Sausage Breakfast.

The ACD festival runs from Thursday to Saturday in Auburn. For the schedule of events and history of the festival, visit the ACD Festival website .
