FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The week’s high heat, teamed with a lack of rain, has intensified our dry soil conditions and, in this week’s latest drought update, a portion of northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio is in a Moderate Drought stage.

Last week, the drought map only showed 1 color – yellow – representing abnormally dry conditions, but not dry enough to officially be in a drought.

In the update that was released Thursday, August 29, the south/southeastern section of the area was placed in the Moderate Drought category. Included in the drought are southern Allen County, east/southeast Huntington County, Bluffton, Decatur, Hartford City, and Portland. In NW Ohio, west and southwest Van Wert county are included.

The Drought Monitor released on August 29 shows a Moderate Drought exists in part of the area. Much of the rest of the region remains abnormally dry.

Only rain will help get us out of this dry spell, but there are only a couple chances for it in the Live Doppler 15 Fury Forecast as August ends and September begins.
