BEECH GROVE, Ind. — A juvenile was shot in Beech Grove on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Beech Grove Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of South 9th Avenue and West Bellefontaine Street around 2:30 p.m. on a report of a person shot. When police arrived at the scene, they found a 17-year-old male who had suffered gunshot wounds.

Police could not confirm exactly how many gunshot wounds the boy sustained. He was transported from the scene to Eskenazi Hospital, where he is now listed in serious but stable condition, per BPD. Law enforcement also confirmed that the injuries the boy sustained required surgery.

BPD did deploy a ballistics K-9 to assist with its investigation. Police reported that they do not have any suspect information they can provide yet.

Investigators believe Sunday’s shooting was an isolated incident that does not pose an ongoing threat to the local community.

Law enforcement encourages those with information on the shooting to contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477.
