TOTW: Huntington North Vikings Football

HUNTINGTON, Ind. (WANE) – In his first season at Huntington North, Mike Eshbach’s crew went through growing pains amid a 1-9 season.

Through two weeks of this season, the Vikings already doubled last year’s win total. For the first time since 2007, Huntington North is off to a 2-0 start with wins at Eastbrook and against Northrop.

Offensively, the Vikings are led by senior quarterback Tony Decker. Last week, the quarterback accounted for six total touchdowns – three passing and three rushing – along with 189 passing yards and 90 on the ground. Marcus Linker is off to a strong start after rushing for 146 yards and a touchdown in Huntington North’s win against Northrop.

Defensively, Jason Teusch, Decker and Wyatt Shearer have stepped up as playmakers for the Vikings. Shearer led Huntington North with nine tackles against Northrop, while Teusch racked up two sacks in the win.

Huntington North kicks off NE8 play against East Noble on Friday.
