ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) – Season 10 of the Troy Abbs era is off to a rough start for Trine football. The Thunder fell flat in a 42-6 loss to Christopher Newport on Saturday at Shive Field.

Trine gave up three scores in the first half to trail, 21-0, heading into halftime. The Thunder’s lone scoring drive came on the first drive of the third quarter. Cole Alexander lofted a 14-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Williams. However, Christopher Newport responded with 21 unanswered points to close the game.

Trine was limited to 298 yards of total offense, while allowing 418 yards on defense. The Thunder also committed to turnovers in Saturday’s loss.

Trine (0-1) looks to bounce back at Rose-Hulman next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Terre Haute.
