FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After a fall-like weekend across the area, temperatures are set to heat up this week and stay warm for the next several days. Not only it is going to be quite warm, but also drought concerns continue to rise…
In September, we are no stranger to days with high temperatures in the 80s. In fact, we typically experience ten days in the month with highs in the 80s. Our record is 17 days in the 80s in September, which was set three times: 1961, 2005, and 2008. So far this year, we have already seen three September days in the 80s.
Less common though are temperatures up in the 90s in September. We typically experience two days though this warm during the month, with the record being 10 days up in the 90s set way back in 1908. We have yet to record a September 90° day so far this year. This comes after we saw one 90° September day last year.
It is very rare for us to climb into the triple digits in September. We did reach 100° though on back to back days to begin the month back in 1953…what a scorcher! These days are the latest 100° days Fort Wayne has ever experienced.
What we are really watching is whether or not we can end up on the list of longest September streaks of days in the 80s. Our record is 12 days in a row in the 80s in September, which was set back in 1927. With our current forecasted temperatures up in the 80s for the next ten days, we could at least tie for third on this list. Click here to have a look at the latest numbers.
Examining some of the other hot temperature streaks in September, our record streak of 80° and higher days in September is 17 days, which was set back in 1927 and 1994. Our record longest streak of days in the 90s in September is 9 days, which was set the year weather record keeping began in Fort Wayne in 1897.
Stay cool out there this week! At least high levels of humidity will not accompany the warmth. With fall officially being only less than two weeks away, we’ll hope we can cool things consistently down soon for you fall weather fans out there…
