INDIANAPOLIS — Destiny Wells’ campaign recently released internal polling data, showing “a highly competitive race for Indiana Attorney General” as November’s election approaches.

Wells, the state’s Democratic candidate for attorney general, reported in an initial poll that 41% of surveyed voters said they would support her campaign in November’s election, a figure within the 4% margin of error. This was compared to the 44% who said they would vote for Todd Rokita, the state’s Republican attorney general who is running for reelection, and 13% of undecided voters.

Officials with the Lake Research Partners conducted a survey of 600 likely voters in November’s general election between Aug. 26 and Sept. 2.

According to previous reports , Wells, an attorney and combat veteran, was the first candidate to announce her intention to run against Rokita. After a contested convention race against Beth White, delegates chose Wells to be the party’s nominee in July.

As a part of the poll, the campaign stressed that Wells reportedly pulled ahead of Rokita after voters were provided positive arguments on Wells’ behalf, along with information on Wells’ background and platform. They said voters have expressed dissatisfaction with Rokita’s job performance as the state’s attorney general.

“Wells’ path to victory in this data is clear,” a campaign memo surrounding the internal polling read. “Provided she has the resources to communicate her message to the voters, Destiny Wells is strongly positioned to win this election in November.”

On Wednesday, Wells said she was very confident with the methodology of the results.

“We wanted to see the real results so we knew what we needed to do to win and not just shop around polling results to get some good feedback,” she said. “The challenge is being able to persuade voters that we do have a race here. They can decide their state elected officials. But at the same time, there are only 55 days left… This is 55 days to do our best work and to make sure we are raising the profile of this race and informing the electorate so they can make the best decisions.”

Wells said her initial platform, along with her messaging surrounding those items, has not changed over the three years of her campaign. According to previous reports, her platform initially included:

    • Medical privacy
    • Support workers’ rights
    • Focus on the needs/safety of community

“We have had the pulse of Hoosiers for some time,” Wells said. “I personally have been at this for three years and I am giving everything for those next 55 days.”

In a statement from Rokita’s campaign, they said that this “push poll” was solely for Wells’ campaign to garner attention as the election approaches.

“Fake polls are like catnip to some in the news media,” Brent Littlefield, a campaign consultant for Rokita, said in a statement to FOX59/CBS4. “The only (thing) shocking about Democrats claiming they have an anti-Rokita poll is how long it took to hit the panic button over Destiny Wells failed, radical left campaign. Rinse, repeat, from 2022.”

According to the Indiana Secretary of State’s office, Hoosiers are able to register to vote for the 2024 General Election through Oct. 7. For more information on how Indiana residents are able to register to vote, click here .
