BLUFFTON, Ind. (WANE) — A week after a man was found dead in downtown, the Bluffton Police Department released new information on Thursday.

The release said 38-year-old Kyle Wyandt of Van Wert, OH, came to the Washington St. residence with the intention of committing multiple criminal acts to settle a civil dispute which started in Ohio.

After Wyandt knocked on the door, a male resident answered.

Wyandt forced his way past the male resident with a semi-automatic handgun.

The male resident ran for help and initiated a 911 call with the help of another citizen in downtown Bluffton.

Wyandt confronted the female resident and struck her in the head with the gun.

The force was enough to break and dislodge the magazine, leaving only one bullet in the chamber.

Police said Wyandt shot himself inside the residence, and the female fled before officers arrived.

No further information will be released, police said.

Bluffton Police added the investigation and examination of the evidence was done in cooperation with the Wells County Coroner’s Office and Indiana State Police Crime Lab.
