Bellmont volleyball sweeps Leo in key NE8 battle

LEO-CEDARVILLE, Ind. (WANE) – With first place on the line in the Northeast 8 conference, Bellmont swept Leo in straight sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-18) to improve to 16-7 on the season.

With Thursday’s win, Bellmont takes sole possession of first place in the NE8 with a 3-0 record in conference play.

Purdue recruit MaryKate Scheumann led the Braves wth 18 kills in Thursday’s win. Meanwhile, future Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodon Alyssa Gumbel earned a double-double with 12 kills and 18 digs. Lilly Selking and Liz Bobay dished out 17 and 15 assists, respectively.

Bellmont steps out of NE8 play to host Fort Recovery (Ohio) on Saturday. Meanwhile, Leo (17-4) faces Rochester that same day.
