County votes to sell two unneeded properties to get them ‘back on the tax rolls’

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — Allen County Commissioners are looking to sell off a couple of properties as part of their ongoing efforts to consolidate their holdings and get some unneeded land back on the tax rolls.

Friday at the weekly legislative session, county attorney Laura Maser recommended the sale of 12 acres at 4315 Meyer Rd. and an acre located at 13417 W. County Line Rd. in Roanoke.

The Meyer Road property is 65 acres in total, but most of it is in a flood plain and will be retained by the county because it is adjacent and just north of the county horse trails, Chris Cloud, the commissioners’ chief of staff told WANE.

Mid-October date set for construction of new Allen County Jail on Meyer Road

The 12-acre property that has some buildings on it is appraised for $504,000, Maser said. The county will take bids on the property and the sale will be advertised. The commissioners’ office has bid forms along with title assessments, a survey and environmental assessments, she added.

The bidding is expected to go on between Oct. 15 and Oct. 31, Maser said.

Another property noted as an “unnecessary remnant” at 13417 County Line Road South in Roanoke has no sewer or water. At one point, it had a septic system which means the soil was disturbed.

The one-acre property could be sold off without a bid process, Maser said.

The property, obtained as part of a road widening project in 2015,  is adjacent to a landowner who may be interested in its purchase, although the property “would not support a dwelling,” but could support a pole barn, Maser said.

The county has received two offers for $3,000 and $3,600, Maser reported.
