The Old Farmer’s Almanac forecast is looking much different than last winter
Since 1792, The Old Farmer’s Almanac has been predicting weather conditions — and 2025 is no different. With winter right around the corner, many of us are wondering: What’s in store for us, weather-wise? Well, if you’re looking for a break from cold and snow, you just might be in luck. According to the Almanac, this winter should be “calmer” and “gentler” than last year. There’s just one downside: It’s likely to be wet .
The 208th edition of the Almanac says that much of the U.S. is in for a “Wet Winter Whirlwind” during the 2024-2025 winter season, meaning winter will be warmer than usual, but also longer and wetter. That’s thanks to the incoming La Niña weather pattern, which is likely to hit from September to November. But the end of January is the exception — look out for “a very active storm track” with strong winds and heavy precipitation that could result in “copious amounts of snow, rain , sleet, and ice (depending on where you live),” according to the Almanac.
With all that wetness likely to be in our futures, now is the time to get ready . If you need to invest in a good raincoat, some waterproof boots , a poncho or an umbrella , we’ve got you covered — check out our suggestions on the list below.
