FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne’s September 2024 hits the weather record books with an impressive temperature stat — 20 consecutive above average temperature days. The stretch started on September 11 and was still going at the end of the month. While it carried over into October, it was just for a day. October 2 had a daily average temperature below average, which ended the streak.

While we did not break any high temperatures records, there were 2 days when we hit 90° – September 20 and 21.

Compared to average, Fort Wayne was 3.8° above, tying it as the city’s 13th warmest September (local weather data goes back to 1897).

Only 7 days had measurable rain in September at the Fort Wayne International Airport.

With only 1.42″ of total monthly rainfall, more than an inch and a half below average, the month ranks as the 23rd driest September in Fort Wayne.

October is off to a warm and dry start with the drought not ending anytime soon. Through, at least, the first week and a half of the month, the Live Doppler 15 Fury Forecast shows no notable rain in the forecast.

The Climate Prediction Center’s Precipitation Outlook map shows an increased probability of below average precipitation in our area during October. On its temperatures map, the signal is not as clear. Northern parts of the region have just a slight lean toward an above average temperature probability, while the rest of the region has an equal chance of ending up above or below average for the month as a whole.
