NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) — Helicopters, firetrucks and police cars pull into the Eastern Allen County Schools’ Career Center to educate students on possible public service careers on Thursday.

Brian Dunkin, a criminal justice instructor at EACS, said Public Services Display day takes over 230 students out of the classroom for an hour and a half to learn about the “day in the life” of first responders.

Dunkin said many students do not know about the daily trials and tribulations of public service workers. He said he hopes inviting students to listen and interact with first responders will give them a clearer insight into what duties public servicemen perform as well as what characteristics and skills are valuable in these fields.

Fort Wayne Police Department launched one of the organization’s drones to show students how officers use the technology in policing. Local organizations, such as Indiana State Police and Lutheran Hospital, landed helicopters on the property. Pilots invited students to circle the machine and ask questions about their careers.

EACS Career Center is located on 1065 Woodmere Dr. To learn more about what services the center provides, visit the organization’s website .
