Options for Community Living hosts benefit at Mulcahy’s Pub
Options for Community Living held its murder mystery event at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh to benefit the center’s various programs. The “I Love the 80s to Death,” event included more than 100 guests who raised over $56,000 for vulnerable adults, children and families across Long Island. With welcome speeches by Options’ CEO Yolanda Robano-Gross, and an inspiring testimonial by resident Paul Ferretti, the afternoon concluded with a raffle basket and silent auction, along with several contest prizes.
NY Tech assists in-need Long Islanders through volunteering efforts

In honor of New York Tech’s Community Engagement Day efforts in April, 12 staff members from enrollment services partnered with Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park to cook, pack and serve meals, supporting more than 60 in-need families. The university’s faculty, staff and students participated in 32 volunteer initiatives as part of its sixth annual Community Engagement Day.

Jefferson’s Ferry residents experience “A NY State of Mind”

For the last 20 years running, Jefferson’s Ferry residents, donors and vendors have collaborated with the facility’s management, staff and board, to show support for the Jefferson’s Ferry Foundation annual gala fundraiser. This year was no different with the theme focusing on New York City nightlife. Dubbed “A New York State of Mind,” the gala was held at Flowerfield in St. James where attendees were treated to live music by the Jazz Loft, dancing, New York-style hor d’oeuvres, casino-style gaming and hand-rolled cigars. The evening’s proceeds will be utiilzed to provide financial assistance to Jefferson’s Ferry residents who outlive their assets or experience a shortfall through no fault of their own.
NYU Langone Health helps LI baby breathe easier

A three-week-old premature baby diagnosed with Pierre Robin Sequence, making it difficult for her to breathe and swallow, is now living her best life through the medical care and procedures completed by doctors and NYU Langone Hospital Long Island. Through the healthcare facility’s cleft lip and palate program, the newborn, Kennedee Murphy, underwent mandibular distraction, comprising a two-stage procedure as well as one additional surgery earlier this year. Through the help of NYU Langone pediatric otolaryngologist Dr. Zahrah Taufique, and oral maxillofacial surgeon Dr. James Choi, the team treats approximately one new cleft palate and lip case monthly.
