Singer/Songwriter Leon Timbo , known for his versatility across soul, gospel, R&B, and now country music, recently graced the airwaves on “ Good Vibes ” to discuss his origins, musical evolution, and personal journey.

Mr. Timbo, originally from Jacksonville, Florida , detailed how his upbringing in Duval County shaped his musical and cultural perspective. He described Jacksonville as a melting pot of influences, from the blues and jazz of its Black communities to the Southern rock of bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd . This rich cultural background, he explained, is reflected in his music's eclectic style.

The discussion also touched on the historical impact of racial segregation and community dynamics in Jacksonville. Mr. Timbo highlighted how infrastructure changes, like the construction of I-95, affected Black communities, influencing the cultural and social landscape that he grew up in. Despite these challenges, he emphasized a positive outlook and a commitment to understanding and addressing historical injustices through his music.

When asked about his musical inspirations and the evolution of his sound, Mr. Timbo shared his unique journey. Unlike many musicians from musically inclined families, Mr. Timbo did not come from a musical background. Instead, he found inspiration in his family's preacher tradition and a passion for storytelling. This led him to develop a distinctive style that combines heartfelt lyrics with a diverse musical palette.

Mr. Timbo's approach to music is deliberate and intentional. He sees himself as a storyteller who uses various genres as a canvas for his narratives. His music blends elements from gospel, R&B, and country, illustrating his belief that Black artists have historically been integral to all musical genres, despite systemic barriers that have attempted to segregate them.

The interview also revealed Mr. Timbo's aspirations and current projects. He expressed admiration for British artist Michael Kiwanuka and American country singer Brittany Spencer , mentioning his desire to collaborate with them. Additionally, he spoke about his ongoing tour in Canada and a new record releasing.
