Atlanta Black Men's Wellness Day Set to Transform Community Health

Coordinators for the African American Male Wellness Agency and Atlanta Black Men's Wellness Day Keith Dobbins and LaDray Gilbert Joined " Let's Talk About It " to discuss the fifth annual Atlanta Black Men's Wellness Day, scheduled for September 14, 2024, aimed to address significant health disparities affecting Black men.

Mr. Dobbins highlighted that Black men in the U.S. face a life expectancy gap of 12 years compared to their counterparts, primarily due to preventable diseases. The wellness day is designed to tackle this issue by providing essential health screenings and creating an engaging environment that encourages participation.

The event will feature screenings for conditions such as glucose levels, blood pressure, and various cancers. In addition to health checks, attendees can participate in a 5k walk/run, enjoy entertainment, and visit a kid zone. Last year, the event attracted 1,500 participants, and this year’s goal is to double that number, reaching 5,000 attendees.

The African-American Male Wellness Agency has emphasized making health care more approachable for Black men by offering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere. This approach is aimed at overcoming barriers such as discomfort with medical visits and lack of representation among healthcare providers.
