Gospel Music is the foundation of what we hear in mainstream music today. Its influence is heard in R&B, Rock and Country and just about every genre of music that you hear on the radio. Recently, Ms. Eclectic, host of "Good Vibes with Ms. Eclectic" attended The National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses, the Thomas A. Dorsey Convention is an annual event that brings together gospel music enthusiasts from across the country for a weekend of music, fellowship, and worship. This year, the 91st convention took place in the vibrant city of “Brotherly Love” and “Sisterly Affection” Philadelphia, drawing in attendees from near and far to celebrate the power of gospel music.

From the moment I stepped into the host hotel, I felt Good Vibes. I felt welcomed. Hospitality from members and staff and I knew this was my first convention experience but definitely wouldn’t be my last. My evening started with a magnificent live recording with angelic voices of perfection as Patrick Lundy celebrated 30 years emceed WAOK’s own Juandolyn Stokes, host of On Point with Juandolyn Stokes.

Coming off a weekend of the Delta Airlines Debacle, Spirits were still high. Then 91st convention kicked off with a powerful opening ceremony, featuring performances by some of the top gospel choirs in the country, Praise dance and musical stylings from Philly Culture with welcomes and recognitions from the the Honorable Cherelle L Parker, 100th Mayor of Philadelphia, City’s First Female Mayor. And the first elected African American Woman Sheriff in the 181-year history of the Philadelphia. And we couldn’t end the night without receiving one of the best cheesesteak recommendations “Max’s”!

The night could not close without Choir Fest, Choirs from St. Thomas, Delaware, Alabama and more! The energy in the room was palpable as the music filled the air, lifting spirits and bringing people together in praise and worship. Throughout the weekend, attendees had the opportunity to attend workshops and seminars led by gospel music experts, honing their skills and gaining valuable insight into the art of gospel music.

One of the highlights of the convention were the nightly concerts from Choir Fest to Ricky Dillard, featuring performances by renowned gospel artists and choirs Jason Clayborn and Crystal Aikin just to name a few. From traditional hymns to contemporary gospel hits, the music was soul-stirring and uplifting, inspiring attendees to raise their voices in praise and worship. The sense of community and camaraderie among attendees was palpable, as music professionals  from all over the country came together to celebrate their shared love of gospel music. Reuniting with friends, family and new friends. I had the time of my life with my church Family from St. Luke Baptist Church in San Antonio, TX with Pastor Joe E. Barber, Alfred Irving -  President of the Alamo City Chapter of NCGCC, Minister of Music Patricia Bratcher and the Texas Chapter. Definitely a trip to remember, New family and friends and a sense of renewed energy.

During this phenomenal fellowship I had the opportunity to interview renowned Songwriter David Fraiser, who wrote the the world’s anthem “I Need You To Survive” and the lovely Sylvia Watkins representing the Office of Public Relations bringing insight to the service of this convention and the multitude it reaches.

As the convention drew to a close, I know attendees left feeling inspired and rejuvenated, carrying the spirit of gospel music with them as they returned home. The National Convention of Gospel Choirs and Choruses in Philadelphia was a weekend filled with music, fellowship, and worship, reminding attendees of the power of gospel music to uplift and unite people from all walks of life! Next year's convention will be right here in the City of Atlanta!
