The True Story of the Amityville Horror
Since 1977, a lake house in Amityville, New York, has been the subject of multiple books, television programs, and almost 15 movies. However, the real story of the "Amityville Horror" is rarely told in the films, which focus more on a fiction based around the Lutz family and their alleged haunting. One of the most interesting facts about the Amityville case is that the hauntings have been debunked numerous times. The defense lawyer who initially represented mass murderer Ronald Defeo, Jr. has stated in multiple court documents that the entire haunting was a hoax. Still, the mythology of the Amityville home lives on.

Western and Central New York aren't Tornado Alley, but they have felt that way in July
The movie "Twisters" opened to a healthy box office this weekend, following in the tradition of its predecessor "Twister" that was in theaters 28 years ago. Neither movie was set in upstate New York, but given the violent storms our region has seen this month, one might be forgiven for imagining a future such movie telling a story rooted in Western or Central New York.It used to be that wintry weather kept Democrat and Chronicle journalists the busiest, but this year, it's been summer storms that have proved alarming.
