New Scholarship Launches for Paramedic Program
Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) Educational Foundation, Inc. is launching The Dr. Norman L. Rexrode, Jr. Memorial Scholarship for paramedic students. The scholarship is made possible by Dr. Bob Mueller, a grateful friend and former colleague, and honors Dr. Rexrode’s 42 years of practicing medicine and teaching paramedic classes at SWCC. Dr. Rexrode was an avid supporter of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and served as the Operational Medical Director (OMD) for SWVA Emergency Services.

Cleveland-Cliffs to open plant in West Virginia
Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. has announced plans to repurpose an idled facility in Weirton, W.V., to establish a new electrical distribution transformer production plant. The $150 million project will equip the facility to produce three-phase distribution transformers used in electric power distribution systems. The investment will result in re-employment opportunities for 600 workers from the indefinitely idled tinplate mill. The plant is expected to come online in the first half of 2026.
