    Cape Cod Baseball League roundup: Y-D tops Wareham in Cape League division leaders battle

    In a battle of Cape Cod Baseball League division leaders, the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox beat the Wareham Gatemen 4-1 at Clem Spillane Field on Wednesday. The Red Sox (16-8-2) led 3-0 before the Gatemen (17-9-1) got on the board in the seventh inning. The visitors then added an insurance run in the ninth and Trevor Moore (Stanford) pitched 2 1/3 one-hit innings with four strike outs to earn his seventh save.

    Phoenix Call (UCLA) and RJ Austin (Vanderbilt) both recorded a hit and an RBI. Sean Youngerman (Westmont) pitched 4 1/3 innings, gave up three hits, walked two and struck out seven. Ryan Sprock (Elon) tossed 1 1/3 no-hit and scoreless innings and improve to a 2-0 record.

    Nate Earley (Florida SouthWestern State JC) had three of Wareham’s five hits. Michael Lippe (Louisville) drove in the only run for the Gatemen. Darin Horn (Coastal Carolina) pitched three innings, gave up a hit, three runs (two earned), two walks and struck out two.

    Cotuit Kettleers 6, Orleans Firebirds 5

    UNC Wilmington’s Tanner Thach (two hits, two runs, two RBIs, one walk) hit a two-run home run to lift the Kettleers (16-9-1) past the Firebirds (7-19). Brandon Compton (Arizona State) had three hits and two RBIs, while Jarren Advincula (California) had three hits and scored two runs. Starter Gabriel Nard (Duke) pitched four hitless innings but gave up two earned runs, three walks and struck out three. Brycen Parrish secured the win, pitched 1 1/3 inning, gave up four hits and struck out two.

    Lorenzo Meola (Stetson) recorded one hit, one scored run and three RBIs. Ben Zeigler-Namoa (Hawaii) had two hits, an RBI and scored a run. Xavier’s Isaac Wachsmann and Loyola Marymount’s Robbie Ayers both had two hits and scored a run. Tucker Biven (Louisville) pitched an inning, gave up one hit and two runs, and collected a blown save and the loss that dropped him to a 1-2 record.

    Chatham Anglers 8, Bourne Braves 4

    The Anglers (15-11) used a six-run fifth inning to beat the Braves (10-14-2) and win their fifth straight game. Tennessee’s Robin Villenueve (one hit, two RBIs) hit a two-run home run, while Vanderbilt’s Jayden Davis (two hits, two runs, three RBIs, one walk) hit a solo blast. Aiva Arquette (Washington) added two RBIs, two runs, one hit and drew a walk. Tyler Murphy (Auburn) pitched 5 1/3 innings, gave up one hit, one run (earned), two walks and struck out seven in the win. Hayden Murphy pitched 2/3 innings and struck out two to make the save.

    Six different players recorded a hit for the Braves, who were 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left nine on base. Chris Stanfield (Auburn), Garrett Michel (Virginia Tech) and Isaiah Jackson (Arizona State) had one RBI each. Starter Chase Meyer (West Virginia) pitched four innings, gave up one hit, one run (earned), walked five and struck out five. Niagara’s Preston Prince struggled in 2/3 innings, where he allowed three hits, six runs (all earned), walked four and struck out one. He allowed both Bourne home runs.

    Falmouth Commodores 3, Hyannis Harbor Hawks 2

    The Commodores (9-17) scored three runs in the sixth inning and then held off a late rally to defeat the Harbor Hawks (15-10-1). Trent Caraway (Oregon State) had two hits and two RBIs, while Jayson Jones (Arkansas), hit a solo home run, recorded two hits and scored a run. Bowen Baker (Fairfield) picked up the win, pitched two scoreless innings, gave up one hit, a walk and struck out three. Washburn’s Gavin Wilhelm pitched 1 2/3 innings without giving up a hit or run and earned the save.

    The Harbor Hawks had just four hits from four different batters. They were 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and left seven on base. Kade Brown (Sacramento State) pitched three innings, gave up three hits, three earned runs, a walk and struck out two, and dropped to a 2-1 record.

    Brewster Whitecaps 7, Harwich 0

    The Whitecaps (12-14) blanked the Mariners (10-16) in a two-hit shutout. Jake Clemente (Florida) pitched seven one-hit and scoreless innings, and he struck out six in the win. Florida’s Brody Donay (two hits, two runs, one RBI) hit a solo home run, while Arkansas Ryder Helfrick tallied a hit and two RBIs. Colby Shelton (Florida) had a hit, drew a walk and scored twice.

    Andrew Evans (Kansas State) pitched four innings, gave up five hits, four runs (two earned) and struck out one in the loss. Cam Maldonado (Northeastern) and Jake Ogden (UNC Greensboro) each recorded a hit.
