Wells Fargo plans to lay off 95 more workers in Hillsboro, the bank said Tuesday. The company, which remains a large regional employer, laid off 316 call center workers in the Portland suburb last year. A "School Rocks Backpack Giveaway" event hosted by Verizon authorized retailer Round Room is set for 1 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at 2227 S.E. Tualatin Valley Highway. This event aims to ease the financial burden for families heading into another school year by providing free backpacks. With 42% of U.S. parents going into debt to pay for back-to-school items, Round Room — one of the country’s largest Verizon authorized retailer locations — is donating more than $3 million worth of backpacks across more than 1,000 stores nationwide. The goal is to alleviate some of the financial pressure on families. Since the inception of this event, over 1.3 million children have received backpacks and any leftover packs will be donated to local schools.

Family of Tigard man killed in 2022 road-rage shooting sues convicted gunman
The family of a Tigard man killed in a 2022 road-rage shooting is suing the man convicted of his murder. Brandy Goldsbury is suing Justin McAnulty for killing Dennis Anderson, her partner of 18 years, in a road-rage encounter on a highway near the Oregon coast. Goldsbury is seeking $37.5 million, according to the lawsuit, which was filed July 9 in Multnomah County Circuit Court.
Power gets shut off in Huntington as Durkee Fire causes concern
ONTARIO, Ore. — People in Huntington, Oregon are without electricity as the Durkee Fire creeps closer to the city. Tuesday morning, the Idaho Power website said this was affecting about 540 customers. Since then, power has been restored to about 100 customers. As of Tuesday evening, crews are patrolling powerlines to make sure they're safe to turn back on.
