A fast-growing wing restaurant chain that got its start in Atlanta now has two Middle Georgia locations with two more in the works, including one in Macon.

TouchDown Wings is known not only for its all-natural, organic wings and 30 sauce choices but also for its Philly steak, sandwiches, hamburgers, fish, chicken tenders and fried rice.

The first Middle Georgia location opened just under a year ago at 2907 Watson Blvd., Suite C-2, next to Crumbl Cookies, in Warner Robins.

Monday, the second TouchDown Wings in Middle Georgia opened at 117 Russell Parkway, Suite H, next to Shells Seafood Restaurant in the Kroger shopping center in Warner Robins.

A third Warner Robins location is expected to open in the new Central Retail Plaza at 840 Ga. 96. The Macon store is “coming soon” to 808 Gray Highway in the former Bojangles spot, according to the TouchDown Wings website.

    The newest location

Touting the 30 sauce options, Christina Kin, a manager at the newest Warner Robins location, encouraged people to try the new restaurant.

The most popular flavors are the #18 lemon pepper, #24 garlic parmesan and the #1 TouchDown Special, Kin said. The TouchDown Special is a mixture of three flavors: Cajun garlic butter, lemon pepper and hot sauces.

The restaurant features sports memorabilia, a dining area with a large screen TV and a comfortable waiting area for takeout orders.

    How it started

What would become the Touchdown Wings restaurant franchise was birthed from founder Jay Yang’s Chinese restaurant, Hong Kong City, which was in business from 2013 to 2017 in downtown Atlanta.

“At that restaurant we sell a lot of wings, too, and on Super Bowl day it was crazy, and I talked to my partner and I said, ‘Why don’t we open a wing restaurant — just focus on the wings?’ And he said, ‘Let’s try,’” Yang previously told The Telegraph

Yang and his partner and brother, Jeremy Lin, chose the name Touchdown Wings because they wanted the name to relate to football since the restaurant idea came from the demand for wings on Super Bowl Sunday.

    Coming soon

TouchDown Wings will join The Peach Cobbler Factory, which is new to Middle Georgia, and CowPies Pizza Co., which is opening a second Warner Robins location, in the new plaza.

The plaza is expected to be completed in mid-August. No opening dates set yet for TouchDown Wings or other plaza restaurants.

But The Peach Cobbler Factory posted on Facebook that it’s “shooting for August/September.”

There’s no word yet on the timeline for the planned TouchDown Wings on Gray Highway in Macon. The former Bojangles restaurant was boarded up Monday.

Since the first TouchDown Wings opened in 2017, the franchise chain has grown to 30 stores. Most are in Georgia, but one is in Greeneville, South Carolina, and another is in St. Louis, Missouri, according to its website. An additional 14 restaurants are in the works, including stores in Alabama and North Carolina.

The newest Warner Robins location is open 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and noon until 9 p.m. Sunday. To place an order, call 478-236-2024 or 478-236-2067.
