Acai & smoothie bowl shop in Warner Robins to close. Could we see new food truck instead?

A Warner Robins shop that serves up acai bowls, smoothies, avocado toast and Boba drinks is closing, but the business may come back as a food truck.

Acai & Smoothie Fusion is expected to serve up its last acai bowl at its brick and mortar shop at 115 Margie Drive, Suite A, on Wednesday.

“That’s the hardest part of closing, our customers and our employees,” said co-owner Karen Barrick.

Barrick and her sister, Mary Kryk, purchased the shop Sept. 1. It formerly had been operating as Essential Bowls, a rebrand of the former Cake ‘n Shake in that location.

“Sales were not enough to keep us afloat,” Barrick said.

While their product was sound, they faced a number of challenges — including their location and supply issues, according to Barrick.

“I think a lot of it is, is people didn’t know we were here,” Barrick said.

The shop is on a far corner of the Jasmine Place retail center, which is next to El Cotija Mexican Restaurant and across from Galleria Cinemas.

The sisters had considered moving across town to the rapidly growing Ga. 96 area but the cost to lease was too expensive, especially with a five-year lease requirement, Barrick said.

“We didn’t want to jump out on a limb,” she said.

They’re now looking at the possibility of a food truck, and if they go that way, they’ll keep their website active and post updates and locations on the site, Barrick said.

They’re selling their kitchen equipment and expect to post an itemized list on the business Facebook page.

The shop will be officially closed Thursday.

“We appreciate your support as we make this difficult transition,” says a notice about the pending closing taped to the front door.
