Food Preservation Workshop August 6
RISON - The Cleveland County Extension Service will host a food preservation workshop August 6, from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the local Cleveland County Fairgrounds meeting room 309 Mockingbird Ln, Rison, AR 71665. With only 10 spots available, the hands-on workshop will cost each participant $10. Land of Legends Travel Association Meets in Rison
RISON - The Arkansas Land of Legends Travel Association brought its annual meeting to Rison's Pioneer Village last week. The travel association promotes Cleveland, Grant, Jefferson and Lincoln Counties. This summer, Land of Legends revitalized its Visitor's Guide with a new printed guide and interactive digital guide online. The Cleveland County Quorum Court and City of Rison went in together to purchase a full-page promotion in the guide. The guide features Cleveland County's highlights including its ties to music icon Johnny Cash, the Saline River and upcoming events, such as the Rison in the Fall Festival, Arkansas Homesteading Conference, Food Truck Friday, County Fair and more. Printed copies of the guide are available statewide at all travel centers. Locally, guides can be picked up at the Cleveland County Herald office, Cleveland County Courthouse and Rison City Hall. The digital guide can be accessed online at www.arlandoflegends.com.
Gunman claiming self-defense in Wednesday homicide at Camden
Camden Police are investigating the city’s second homicide in a week. Sgt. Ashley Watts of CPD Criminal Investigation Division said in a statement on Wednesday afternoon, July 24, 2024 that officers responded at 12:51 a.m. Wednesday to Spring Street. There was a report that shots had been fired and that one person was shot.
Donations Will Provide School Supplies For All Rison Students
RISON - Freedom Assembly and Rison Shine Community Development, Inc. have announced that school supplies for all students K-12 in Cleveland County School District have been purchased and will be delivered to the school next week."We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the incredible support shown by our community for the Freedom Assembly and Rison Shine school supply fundraiser," said Freedom Assembly Pastors Kevin and Amber Hornaday.Rison Shine President Celeste Beatty echoes those sentiments on behalf of the officers and volunteers in the organization, "Without our community coming together, this tremendous gift would not be possible." Rison High School Principal LeTitia Walker and Rison Elementary Principal Angie Hudson have expressed their gratitude and support as well.According to Walker and Hudson, parents just need to send their students to school Wednesday, Aug. 14, with a backpack and all the supplies will be in the classrooms.Walker noted that for high school students, there are some exceptions based on classes. For students in classes that require a Ti-84 calculator, fabric and thread, or a camera scan disk, those items will still need to be purchased by parents. Eells named head of UA Little Rock Windgate Education school

Missing woman found safe
Kristi Darnell, 50, have been found safe. Magnolia Police Chief Todd Dew said that Darnell was located about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024. She was taken to Magnolia Regional Medical Center to be medically checked, then released. Authorities had been looking for Darnell since Tuesday night, July 23, 2024.
Indiana man flees and shoots at Arkansas State Police on I-30
A man fleeing from Arkansas State Police on Interstate 30 was shot and injured Monday night in Hope, Arkansas. The Troopers were pursuing 43-year-old Joshua Harrison of Richmond, Indiana. At approximately 10:10 p.m., Troopers pursued the fleeing suspect on Interstate 30 eastbound near the Hempstead/Nevada County line. At roughly the 36-mile marker, the suspect driver fired shots at Troopers, who returned fire.
