Eells named head of UA Little Rock Windgate Education school
Dr. Rachel Eells has been named the inaugural Windgate Foundation Endowed Director of the School of Education at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. “I am so pleased to be able to serve the university and community in this way,” said Dr. Rachel Eells, who served as interim director of the School of Education during the 2023-2024 academic year. “The School of Education is in the midst of exciting work that will have an immediate and lasting impact on schools in Central Arkansas and beyond. I am eager to partner with districts to develop and refine systems to recruit, prepare, and retain exceptional, committed teachers.”
Missing woman found safe
Kristi Darnell, 50, have been found safe. Magnolia Police Chief Todd Dew said that Darnell was located about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024. She was taken to Magnolia Regional Medical Center to be medically checked, then released. Authorities had been looking for Darnell since Tuesday night, July 23, 2024.
Indiana man flees and shoots at Arkansas State Police on I-30
A man fleeing from Arkansas State Police on Interstate 30 was shot and injured Monday night in Hope, Arkansas. The Troopers were pursuing 43-year-old Joshua Harrison of Richmond, Indiana. At approximately 10:10 p.m., Troopers pursued the fleeing suspect on Interstate 30 eastbound near the Hempstead/Nevada County line. At roughly the 36-mile marker, the suspect driver fired shots at Troopers, who returned fire.

The Hope/Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce Community Coffee was hosted by the Watermelon Royalty on Wednesday July 24th. The 18th Annual Miss & Mister Watermelon Festival Pageant is set for Tuesday, August 6th at 6:00 pm at Klipsch Auditorium in City Hall in Hope. This exciting event is open to boys and girls from 0 to 18 years of age, with no admission fee for the public. All registration forms and fees must be postmarked by July 19th Additionally, the Hope Watermelon Beautiful Baby Contest is a charming photo contest for boys and girls aged 0-3. Photos and results will be displayed at the 48th Annual Watermelon Festival from August 8-10. U.S. News Names UAMS a Best Medical School for Primary Care, Rural Practice
LITTLE ROCK — The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) continues to climb U.S. News & World Report’s list of Best Medical Schools. The magazine’s annual ranking of medical and osteopathic schools across the country was released today, showing that for 2024, UAMS ranked fourth nationally for primary care education, ninth for the most graduates practicing in health professional shortage areas and 11th nationally for graduates practicing in rural areas.
