During its regular meeting Monday, the Warren County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the expansion of the Bovina fire protection district following a public hearing on the matter.

Warren County Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs said the move is good news for homeowners who will likely see a drop in their insurance premiums as a result of the expansion.

“This expansion gives us out five miles from that fire station,” Briggs said. “What that does is it will lower insurance premiums within that five miles. We hope to get six. We’ll find out this week. If that’s the case, they could save upwards of 40-to-50 percent on their homeowner’s insurance annually.”

Board of Supervisors President Kelle Barfield said the move, which should positively impact the district’s fire rating, is a big step forward for the residents in the Bovina community.

“We do appreciate the response of all of the emergency responders that we have here and the leadership that is on display for the good of the county,” she said. “An important part of that is forward looking and anticipating needs.”

Board Attorney Blake Teller told board members the expansion is both wanted and needed in the Bovina area.

“It’s a matter of public convenience and necessity,” Teller said.
