A child is dead, and several others seriously injured after multiple collisions on a Massachusetts highway. According to Tim McGuirk of Massachusetts State Police, the preliminary information indicates that at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Michael Escolas, 42, of Oxford was traveling at a high rate of speed on Route 1 south in a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which he allegedly stole from a parking lot at Gillette Stadium. Escolas rear-ended a Nissan Altima stopped at a red light near the intersection of Route 1 and Interstate 495.

Tragedy struck Dorchester last night when a man was found with life-threatening gunshot wounds at 519 Washington Street. According to a statement from the Boston Police Department, officers arrived at approximately 9:58 PM in response to reports of a shooting. The adult male victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced dead.

Garber, who was appointed on an interim basis in January and affirmed as the University’s leader earlier this month, expressed optimism about the excellence and character of Harvard students — evidenced by a record number of Rhodes Scholars last year and more recently by success at the Paris Olympics — and the desire of the community to come together despite differences. He also noted that discord around national and global events, including the Gaza war, is not going away, and that part of a university’s role in the world is to teach those with conflicting beliefs to exchange views by listening as well as talking. Police investigating after Melrose cemetery vandalized
Police are investigating after a cemetery in Melrose was vandalized earlier this week. The wooden fence and a toppled headstone at the Workmen’s Circle Cemetery appeared to have been set on fire when officers responded around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, according to Melrose police. A groundskeeper told police the fence was intact and the headstone was upright when they left on Sunday night. Workmen’s Circle is owned and managed by the Jewish Cemetery Association of Massachusetts, according to Melrose police.
