WARREN (WWJ) -- A second man has been arrested and charged with murder connection with a police chase that ended in a deadly crash in Warren.

The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office announced Wednesday that 26-year-old Damaree Darvell Terry of Pontiac was taken into custody on Tuesday at his workplace in Auburn Hills.

According to investigators, Terry was the driver of the second Dodge Charger which fled from officers early last Saturday morning. He's charged with one count of second degree murder, a life felony, along with four counts of fleeing police, and three counts of reckless driving causing serious impairment of body function.

Terry did not stop, fleeing the scene after the Charger driven by the other suspect, 26-year-old James Hudson of Pontiac, crashed into a Jeep Cherokee, police said.

Katrina Michael, a 42-year-old Warren mother of two, who was a passenger in the Jeep was killed in the crash, at 10 Mile and Dequindre roads. The driver of the Jeep was seriously injured.

At a news conference Tuesday, Warren Police defended their decision to chase after the speeding suspects, saying traffic was light, and that the drivers were suspected of drag racing.

"The way these people were driving, their vehicle was a weapon," said Warren Police Commissioner Charles Rushton. "And I understand when people look at these videos it is a tragic event, but these people are driving in such a manner that it makes their vehicle a weapon. It is basically a 5,000-pound bullet driving down 8 Mile."

Terry was arraigned Wednesday in Warren 37th District Court, and ordered held on a $1 million cash/surety only bond. If he's released on bond, he must wear a steel cuff GPS tether.

Hudson, who faces identical charges, was arraigned Tuesday and also remains held on a $1 million cash/surety only bond, with a tether if he's released.

Both defendants will be back in court for a Probable Cause Hearing scheduled for July 16, to be followed by a Preliminary Exam a week later.

“The reckless actions of this defendant, fleeing from police at high speeds along with another driver, directly led to the tragic death of an innocent person," said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido, in a statement. "This shows the severe consequences of such dangerous behavior."

Police are still investigating, seeking information on the driver of a third Dodge Charger that was not chased by officers.

Meanwhile, an online fundraiser has been set up to help Michael's family, including two teenage sons. By Wednesday, the GoFundMe had already exceeded its goal of $30,000 to cover the costs of a memorial service and related expenses. Those who wish to make a contribution can do so at this link .
